This will be an evening with New York Times bestselling author and comedy performer Michael Wex and Pete Sokolow, world renowned keyboardist. Together they will create a cabaret performance filled with laughter, music and nostalgia.
Michael Wex is the author of both “Born to Kvetch” and the follow up book “Just Say Nu”. Both books have been hailed as witty, wise and altogether wonderful. His approach to interfacing with his audience has become so unique that it is now called Wexology. To understand it, you have to see and hear it. Michael has worked in every area of contemporary Yiddish. Some of his songs have been recorded by the Flying Bulgars and the 2007 Grammy winners, The Klezmatics. His approach is so different that the only complaints usually heard are that everyone is enjoying themselves so much and wished they had taken notes. Theodore Bikel has said “I know it’s a vain hope, but when I grow up I want to be Michael Wex.” J Weekly said “He’s stunningly uproariously, laugh out loud and make everyone on the train think you’re a lunatic funny.” The greatest compliment and accolade comes from the New York Post “Wex’s parents must be kvelling.”
Pete Sokolow has become almost on of Midway’s own. He has performed here with Kapelye, Joanne Borts and our evening of “An Old World Wedding.” Pete is world renown in the field of Jewish music, having appeared with many well known klezmer bands and orchestrating albums in many styles. He is highly regarded as a performer in both Irish (just right for a nice Jewish boichikle) and pop orchestras. Michael and Pete have performed together and through story, song, and music they create the atmosphere of the old Catskills.
